Explanation: [Give, offer, provide & supply #1]

在台灣,一千個人裡面可能有一個會分give跟offer,所以要記住喔!
It’s best not to try to understand the difference with Chinese translations.
不要用中文邏輯,看懂以下的例句就會懂區別。

Imagine “give” as a 2-step process:
1. Person A holds something out for Person B.
2. Person B takes the thing from Person A.

For example:
(1) My friend holds out a coffee and waits for me to take it.
(2) I take it.
Or
(1) My friend asks me if I would like to drink some coffee.
(2) I say yes, and he gives me the coffee.

So, “give” is a two-step process. There is a “giver” and a “taker”.

What about “offer”?
“Offer” is simply the first step of “give”.

For example:
• I ask my friend if he would like a coffee
= I offer my friend a coffee
(My friend may or may not take the coffee)

• I ask my friend if he would like any help
= I offer to help my friend
(My friend may or may not accept my help)

So, when we offer something, there may or may not be a “taker”.

There are many other uses of “offer” than this simple example. However, this is the most common usage of the word.
如果你會分give根offer的話,你比大部分的人厲害!
如果我解釋的不夠清楚,請說。
